Hello everyone. As someone who has always been very interested in world events and politics, I've decided to begin writing a blog. I am interested in almost any topic, but I will usually cover both national and Texas politics and other relevant news items and events. I will also comment on sports topics now and then.
As you should have guessed from the name of the blog, I am a conservative and a graduate of the University of Texas. I am a very proud Longhorn, and you can assume that any succes for a Longhorn sports team will be mentioned here. I am even more proud to be a conservative, and my main goal for this blog is to hopefully persuade others that the conservative position is the correct position. The election of the ultra-liberal Barack Obama to the presidency has placed this nation in great peril, and I will spend much of my time pointing out the error of his way of thinking and his policies.
I am also a teacher, and as events in Wisconsin have recently shown, many teachers hold views that are the exact opposite of my own. I am not a member of a union (I am very grateful that Texas has a right-to-work law and that teacher's unions don't have the power here that they have in many other states) and I firmly believe that the actions of the teachers in Wisconsin, particularly shutting schools down to go to protests, are disgraceful. Most of the teachers that I work with are fairly conservative, although probably not as conservative as I am. Unlike many teachers, I am a firm believer that school choice is needed, and I'm also a believer in merit pay, easier certification, and other reforms that the teacher unions are doing everything they can to keep from happening. I received my certification through alternative certification, and I am well aware that if the teachers union had their way I would never been allowed to become a teacher in that manner, and I know many excellent teachers who have gone through alternative certification, which the unions oppose. I will write more about these issues, but if you want to know my opinion about an education issue, you can usually just look up the NEA view and assume that my view is the exact opposite (there are some exceptions to this, but not many.)
I hope that anyone who reads this welcome is interested enough to return regularly. I do get very busy with teaching, so I can't promise a post everyday, but I am going to try to post as much as possible.
